Dutch offshore contractor Heerema to participates in transporting and installing 84 foundations on largest US Offshore Wind Project 'Vineyard Wind'.
Vineyard Wind LLC project is United States first utility-scale offshore wind energy project.
Vineyard Wind has leased a 160,000 acre area, situated 14 miles off the coast of Massachusetts, this project will generate clean, renewable, cost-competitive energy for over 400,000 homes and businesses, while reducing carbon emissions by over 1.6 million tons per year.
Vineyard Wind announced in November 2018 that, it has named MHI Vestas Offshore Wind as preferred supplier for its 800-megawatt (MW) wind farm. The project is expected to include 84 units of the MHI’s V164-9.5 MW™ offshore wind turbine
The contract for Heerema comprises in the (offshore) transport and installation (T&I) of 84 foundations consisting of monopiles and transition pieces and appurtenant ESP platforms in the Northeast of the US near the island of Martha's Vineyard.

The construction is expected to start next year and the wind farm is scheduled to be operational in 2021.
Vineyard Wind is a 50-50 partnership between funds of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Avangrid Renewables.
